Hybrid technology coming to all Honda vehicles
Author: adminSeptember 30, 2009
Still a best seller in JapanThanks to strong sales of the Honda Insight and other fuel efficient vehicles, such as the Fit, Honda has been able to stay in the black while other automakers have suffered during this economic crisis. Nonetheless, Honda envisions huge changes in the automotive landscape.
“Even without the economic shock, cars have to change dramatically with the rise in environmental consciousness,” Honda President Takanobu Ito told the Japanese Times.
Thus, Honda expects to make “huge resource investments” into clean technologies, such as hybrid cars.
Next year, Honda will launch the Honda CRZ hybrid and a Fit hybrid as well and Ito claims, “I have no doubt that (some form of) a hybrid system will eventually be installed in all cars.”

A path to cheaper hybrids
Author: adminSeptember 30, 2009
Compact converter systemsHanna Plesko, a doctoral student at Power Electronic Systems Laboratory, might have invented a way to help bring down the costs of hybrid vehicles.
By integrating the power electronics and the electric motor in a way where several functions can be performed simultaneously, a number of important components can be shared, resulting in fewer raw materials and a simpler, more efficient design.
Obviously, this alone won’t make hybrids that much more cost effective, but it demonstrates that much more efficiency is yet to be gained in hybrid and electric drives.
Maybe 35 percent marketshare for hybrid and electric vehicles by 2025 isn’t that unrealistic.

California ending carpool lane access for hybrids
Author: adminSeptember 30, 2009
Move over hybridIf you were an early adopter of hybrid technology, then you might have received a sticker that allows hybrids with single occupants to use the carpool lane.
Well, your sticker will soon be meaningless.
That program is set to expire at the end of 2010, unless extended by the California Legislature.

Audi: Are white wheels the next big thing?
Author: adminSeptember 30, 2009
We still rave for matte black paintjobs, but white wheels might be the next big thing. Awesome looks!
One particular trend that caught our eye while in the Audi Forum Neckarsulm this month was the evolution of painted wheels from the factory. Black and titanium wheels have been seen before, but the Audi Accessories area also included white painted alloys… sort of a modern interpretation of ‘

VW Touareg: New spy shots
Author: adminSeptember 30, 2009
Here are some new spy shots of the next-generation VW Touareg.
Sources are suggesting the new 2011 Touareg will be significantly lighter, rumors suggest up to some 300 kilograms than the current model. We can only assume this is mainly to cut down on the current car’s not-so-spectacular fuel economy, plus it will no doubt go a long way to improve the Touareg’s driving dynamics.

VW L1: A concept connecting with conceptual art
Author: adminSeptember 30, 2009
Nice and unique article here about the VW L1.
The slender Volkswagen L1 shown recently at the Frankfurt Motor Show was built to set mileage records. The 158-miles-a-gallon-diesel electric hybrid reminded me of another very slender vehicle: “La D.S.,” a work by Gabriel Orozco, an artist born in Mexico. It was built as sculpture.
Mr. Orozco’s modified car is a version of the Citroën D.S.,
